Design is:
Design is an increasingly fluid idea, resisting a simple definition. At it's core, it's about solving problems, while giving structure and expression to ideas.
What once was a simpler application of the arts to commerce is now broader than ever. Thoughtful design can be seen everywhere, from an expressive book cover to an ergonomic chair to elegant software that makes the complex appear simple. Design is about both how things work and how they look, move, and feel. Design considers utility and experience, the functional and the emotional, the machine and the human.
I love design, because its breadth affords for endless opportunity to create new solutions. As technology and industry evolves, the profession of design necessarily evolves with it, opening up new creative possibilites.
Ultimately, I love design because in the creation of order, structure, and beauty, we are a reflection of our Creator. All design and creative work is significant because, properly applied, it leads to mutual human flourishing. But beyond that, by its very nature all great design is a window in the world. It is a small reflection of the creativity of the One whose likeness we mortals bear.
